On Friday, 8th May 2026 Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute ASEAN-lndia Regional (JTTRI-AIRO) and Coordinating Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional development will kick-off the first Japan-Indonesia Logistics Working Group Meeting. In this session, we will focus on key issues shaping the future of the logistics sector, including the development of multimodal transport, digitalization, enhancement of logistics hub capacity, and management and human resource development. We will introduce current progress, challenges, and ongoing initiatives in each area, and engage in an exchange of views among participants. For both Japan and Indonesia striving to strengthen supply chain resilience, improve efficiency, and support sustainable economic growth—advancing these logistics capabilities will play a vital role in enhancing regional connectivity and competitiveness.
In September 2025, a logistics symposium was held in Jakarta under the theme “Aiming for Advanced Logistics in Indonesia -Improvement of Logistics in ASEAN island Region- (Part 2)”. At the symposium, issues such as the development of multimodal transport, logistics hub and digitalization were identified as key challenges for improving logistics efficiency. It was agreed that both Japan and Indonesia would continue discussions in greater detail to examine concrete measures to address these challenges.
In order to build efficient logistics in Indonesia, discussions will be held on approaches and proposed solutions to the key issues, leading to the formulation of policy recommendations. The anticipated discussion points are as follows. While continuing consultations with Indonesia side, around three high-priority issues will be selected for further examination from the 2nd WG meeting onward, with the aim of producing outputs that can contribute to ASEAN as a whole.
